POSITIVE DOG is excited to announce it has formed an exclusive partnership with Fur-Get Me Not: http://www.furgetmenot.com/
POSITIVE DOG is committed to using positive reinforcement methods based on sound scientific principles, divided into these three categories:
• Train the dog by reinforcing appropriate behaviors
• Manage the dog by preventing the repetition of inappropriate behaviors
• Build a relationship with the dog by making you the center of activities and desired resources in your dog’s life
Dogs, just like people, learn faster when the learning environment is interesting and enjoyable. We achieve this with the dogs through using treats, toys, physical and verbal affection and other motivating activities. Part of the learning also includes setting limits, but never by physically punishing the dog. A key component in all successful interactions with our canine companions is the ability to establish clear and reliable channels of communication; through action, consistency and repetition.
POSITIVE DOG’s work focuses exclusively on behavioral consultations. We work with all ages and all breeds of dogs throughout the D.C. metropolitan area. We will work with any type of behavioral cases.
Some examples:
• Dog-dog aggression/reactivity
• People-dog aggression/reactivity
• Fear-based behaviors
• Separation anxiety
• Resource guarding
If deemed necessary we will refer to a veterinary behaviorist or other behavioral consultant in the area with the appropriate expertise.
Vivian is the new Training Director at Fur-Get Me Not and in this capacity will offer two type of services:
• In-home private training sessions. The sessions include teaching regular obedience cues, including housetraining, crate training and specific puppy behaviors. Training plans will also be offered for less severe behavioral issues such as excessive jumping and mouthing, timid behavior, barking, poor impulse control skills and some destructive behaviors.
• Group classes. Fur-Get Me Not conducts unique Levels training for dogs 5 months and older. This training structure allows you to attend classes according to your own schedule and training pace. Each level of classes (1 through 4) focuses on a core set of behaviors, which keeps rotating so if you miss a class another opportunity to catch up will soon appear. Levels 1 and 2 are offered two times a week. Everyone starts in level 1 and once all the criteria in the first level are met you graduate to the next one. You buy a membership of two, four or six months, if you later want to extend the membership it is easy to do.
Puppy Classes - classes for puppies less than 6 months - coming soon! In the meantime take advantage of free puppy play dates at Fur-Get Me Not's dog daycare the first Thursday of every month from 7:15pm-8pm.
